Update: A Low Key House Addition in Franklin Tennessee

We just found out that this project was given a 2010 Preservation Award from the Franklin / Williamson County Tennessee Heritage Foundation!

Here are some views of a Franklin Tennessee remodel / addition to a '70's ranch style house- before and after. The project included a re-built front porch with a new pediment front, a new master bedroom addition and a new screened porch addition. The existing speckled brick was painted and new operable shutters were added as well. The master and screened porch additions are shown below with their colorful overhangs and rafter tail detail. Bill Powell was the contractor, and as usual, he did a fantastic job.

Since we started our business in 2003, we've always done smaller additions and remodels- even when we didn't have to. That was smart business, because without these jobs, we wouldn't have survived the past year and a half! But beyond that, we've met some really great people who tend to be very good references for future projects- and we always appreciate that!

O'More College of Design- Semester Winding Down

We designed the O'more College of Design satellite studio facility- the Lehew Design Center- at the Factory at Franklin ( Don Burke was the project architect), and Don and I both teach classes at the school as well. Here are a few photos of the studio in the last few days of the semester when the students are spending long hours working frantically to finish their projects.

Feature in the March Edition of Williamson County V.I.P. Magazine

We were fortunate to be included in a Williamson County V.I.P. magazine article about a Franklin, Tennessee area residence we designed a few years ago.

We had a link on here to the article, but apparently they don't archive the link, they just update to the newest issue. Our thanks go out to Kim and Howard Wall (owners) and Candie Westbrook (the writer) for the nice article. Many times, the designers, architects, and builders are not included in this type of article, and we very much appreciate our inclusion here. Here are a few exterior photos of the house.

Julius Shulman : Visual Acoustics

My good friends John and Elizabeth took me to see Visual Acoustics last night at the Belcourt Cinema here in Nashville- and I'm very glad that they did. I highly recommend it- not just to architects, designers and photographers- but to those who love them as well. The showing was extended here in Nashville until February 1st ( call for local listings: "Why don't you just tell me which movie you'd like to see...") and is well worth tracking down in your town. I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase this when given the chance- and I will hopefully show it as part of my "Vocabulary of Architecture" class that I'm going to be teaching next semester at the O'More College of Design.
